Laser Tag Systems

Laser tag is a sporting game in which two teams, or individuals in case it is an individual game, try to tag each other using a laser tag gun. The laser tag gun tag the players by emitting a ray of infrared light that is detected by infrared sensor – though there are versions available that do not require separate infrared sensors. The game can be compared to the game of hide and seek – but with guns. It was inspired by a simulation exercise that was first conducted by the US Army to trains its soldiers in combat situations. When released in 1979, it was also inspired by fight sequences in sci-fi shows and movies.

Laser Tag Gun as a Laser Tag System

The laser tag guns are also known as laser tag systems, and that is how many manufacturers market their guns. It is a system because it consists of a whole lot of features that make the game of laser tag possible.

The laser tag gun is shaped like a normal handgun or a shotgun. Like any other gun, it includes a barrel, a grip and a trigger. But rather than having a pipe like barrel that other firearms have, laser tag systems barrel is affixed with a lens that is used to emit a straight beam of infrared. Most laser tag systems have a range of 200-500 feet, with the ones with longer range used to play in the outdoors version of the game.

Modern Laser tag systems also have a LCD screen that shows the status of the game while the game is in progress. For example, it may show the player the number of confirmed kills that he/she has yet made. Many modern but pricier laser tag systems also have camera mounted on them that can be used to show the view as seen by the camera. This specially helps in shooting long range as a sniper.

Laser tag systems run on rechargeable batteries, and can usually run on a single recharge for several hours.
